Kelechi Iheanacho has confirmed that the
injury he picked up in Manchester City’s 1-0 win against Steaua
Bucharest is nothing serious.
The Nigerian forward was handed a start
in the game as Fabian Delph’s 56th-minute effort sealed the win on
Wednesday at the Etihad Stadium as City progressed into the Champions
League group stages 6-0 on aggregate.
However, Iheanacho was forced out of the
action on a stretcher when he appeared to hurt his hamstring and was
replaced by Fernandinho for the final 15 minutes. The situation sent
fears into Nigerian fans as they quickly discussed his likely absence
from Nigeria’s game against Tanzania in September.
City chief Pep Guardiola was also unsure how serious the problem was, but Iheanacho took to Instagram after the game to claim that it should not keep him on the sidelines.
“Great result for the team. Very
pleased we’ve qualified for the Champions League group stage. Thank you
everyone for your messages. I’m pleased to inform you all that I am
okay,” he wrote.
