Meet This Amazing 13 Year Old Violinist, Ifetayo Ali-Landing

Meet Ifetayo Ali-Landing, a third generation Nigerian-American, who is absolutely amazing as a violinist. What’s even more impressive, is that she’s just 13 years old. I know. What amazing thing were you doing at 13?

Classical music is never really an area of expertise for Nigerians generally, and you’d be hard pressed to hear classical music sounds in any Nigerian song through generations. So seeing a Nigerian exploring this field at such a
young age is a good look, both for classical music lovers and for those who want to get their kids into learning about it.

Ifetayo has won multiple awards for her expertise in playing various instruments and is a student at the Hyde Park Suzuki Institute. By age 3 she could already differentiate between the mellow sounds of the cello to the more timbre pitches of the violin. Her mother and instructor, Lucinda Ali-Landing exposed her to the cello, and shortly after other string instruments.

This year, she was one of the selected winners of the 2016 DePaul Concerto Festival for Young Performers competition in Chicago, where she performed as soloist with the Festival’s Oistrakh Symphony Orchestra at the festival’s ceremony. She has also received recognition from Society of American Musicians (SAM) competition, Depaul Concerto Festival for Young Musicians competition, and the Music Festival in Honor of Confucius competition.

Amazing! Check out one of her videos of her performance. This one is Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor.
