Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg arrived Nigeria yesterday – his first visit to Africa.

His first stop was at Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) in Yaba, Lagos, after which he went to Andela‘s office where the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative had earlier donated $24million dollars.

18-year-old Arrested for Allegedly Selling Bars of Soap as Mobile Phones in Lagos

A teenager, Segun Adeyefa, 18, has been arrested by officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly selling bars of soap as mobile phones to people in traffic.

The suspect, who confessed to the crime, was arrested at 7:30PM on Tuesday by the officers on routine patrol of Ikorodu Motor Park, while trying to defraud a man.

FAAN Increases Access Gate Charge by 100% Effective September 1st

The Management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has increased the ‘access gate’ charge for vehicles by 100%.

In the new rate, Buses will be charged N400, Cars/SUVs will be charged N600, and Trucks will be charged N1000, as against the N200, N300, and N500 being charged before.

11 die as commercial bus explodes in Lagos

 

About 11 persons were killed on Thursday after a commercial bus with 14 passengers on board went up in flames on the Otedola Bridge in the Berger area of Lagos.

It was learnt that the deceased comprised eight males and three females while three persons were rescued from the wreckage alive.

Brazil’s Senate impeaches Rousseff

 
Brazil’s Dilma Rousseff was stripped of the country’s presidency on Wednesday in a Senate impeachment vote ending 13 years of leftist rule in Latin America’s biggest economy.
Rousseff, 68, was convicted by 61 of the 81 senators of illegally manipulating the national budget. The vote, passing the needed two-thirds majority, meant she was immediately removed from office.
Cheers — and cries of disappointment — erupted in the blue-carpeted, circular Senate chamber as the verdict flashed up on the electronic voting screen.

Michel Temer will be sworn in as president of Brazil at 1900 GMT Wednesday after Dilma Rousseff was stripped of the post, the leader of the Senate said.

Senate president Renan Calheiros told the chamber that acting president Temer, 75, would be sworn in as full head of state after members convicted Rousseff of breaking state accounting laws at an impeachment trial.

R&B singer Chris Brown was arrested Tuesday after a woman claimed he threatened her with a gun, Los Angeles police said hours after officers arrived at the entertainer’s Los Angeles mansion and returned with a search warrant.

“Mr. Brown is going to be transported where he will be arrested for ADW — assault with a deadly weapon,” LAPD Lt. Chris Ramirez told reporters at around 5 p.m. local time (8 p.m. ET). Brown will be formerly booked sometime Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, police said.

A herdsman has been arrested with an AK-47 assault rifle and 24 rounds of live ammunition in Enugu.

 The Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who announced the arrest on Tuesday, identified the herdsman as Ibrahim Adamumale.
