Buhari has revealed his sole purpose of delaying the assent of the 2016 budget which led to a protracted drama between the legislative and executive arms of government.
President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed why he had to delay in signing the 2016 Appropriation Bill into law which led to bitter agitations among Nigerians.
Speaking during a radio interview over the weekend in Katsina his home state, Buhari assured Nigerians that his administration will effectively utilise available resources to turn around the fortunes of the country.
Buhari said,“We will do our best to fix the country. When the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma, asked me to sign the budget weeks ago and there were issues, I told him I won’t. But when he insisted, I told him if I assented to it and anything happened, he would be held responsible.
“He accepted and left. But when he had a second thought, he ran back to me and agreed with me that we shouldn’t sign it. It was at that point I heard of padding. The committees of the National Assembly removed our projects and replaced it with theirs.
“That’s was why we had three weeks to look at it. When he returned to me again, Udoma told me that most of the projects the National Assembly included had been removed but that we can go with the remaining ones since I must approve money before funds would be released for the execution of projects.”

Two elderly women suspected to be witches have died after they were forced to drink holy water.
According to reports, the 2 elderly Zimbabwean women died after they were forced by their children to attend the church service. During the service, 76-year-old Erita Bhebhe and Jessy Mutero, age unknown, collapsed and died at Baba Wechishanu Wenguwo Tsvuku Church.
B-Metro reports that Prophet Pira, the church leader and custodian had initially said if the women drank the water they would die if they were witches but live if they were not. The two boys who forced the women to the church were caught after they both gave similar stories of their mothers’ deaths, raising the suspicion of family members.
“Joshua and Edica tried to cover up the issue after realising that their mothers died at church. They took them home leaving each one of them in her kitchen hut. The grandchildren, realizing that there was something wrong, told neighbours who then confirmed them dead and alerted other family members.
“The other children, hearing what had transpired prior to their mothers’ deaths reported the matter to the police and their corpses were taken for post-mortem in Bulawayo. The results revealed that the two women died of poisoning,” said a family source.
The two boys confessed the crime to the police after they were arrested.
“Joshua and Edica were picked up by police for questioning and they revealed that their mothers died after drinking water which was given to them by Prophet Pira,” the source added.

The mother noticed that the baby’s tummy keeps swelling up and she rushed him to the town hospital in Pankshin where they were further referred to Plateau state Specialist Hospital.
It was there that they discovered that the baby’s anus was sealed meaning that he cannot defecate.
The president of Plateau state hospital Dr. Philemon Golwa said a surgery needs to be conducted on the child immediately.

President Buhari will leave for London on Tuesday May 10th too participate in the international Anti-Corruption Summit which will be held in the British capital on Thursday, May 12.
According to a statement by presidential media aide, Femi Adesina, President Buhari will play a prominent part in the summit which will be hosted by Prime Minister David Cameron of Great Britain with many other Heads of State and Government in attendance.
President Buhari will, ahead of the summit’s opening, deliver a keynote address titled: “Why We Must Tackle Corruption Together” at a pre-summit conference of development partners, the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, Transparency International and other civil society groups on Wednesday, May 11, 2016.
The statement adds that Buhari is one of the world leaders scheduled to speak at the opening session of the Anti-Corruption Summit with others, including Prime Minister Cameron and the President of the World Bank, Dr. Jim Yong Kim.
Thereafter, President Buhari will join other participating heads of State and Government at special plenary sessions on Exposing Corruption, Tackling Corruption and Driving out Corruption.
In his address to the summit and interactions with other participating leaders, President Buhari will urge the international community to move faster on the dismantling of safe havens for the proceeds of corruption and the return of stolen funds and assets to their countries of origin.
He will also reaffirm his administration’s unwavering commitment to the fight against corruption and the Federal Government’s readiness to partner with international agencies and other countries to identify, apprehend and punish corrupt public officials.
President Buhari’s delegation to the Summit will include the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Alhaji Abubakar Malami and the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu.
Before returning to Abuja on Friday, May 13, 2016, the President is expected to have a separate meeting with Prime Minister Cameron to discuss ongoing Nigeria-Britain collaboration in the war against corruption and terrorism, as well as other issues, including trade and economic relations between both countries.

A passenger train that departed Lagos for Kano derailed at Jebba , Niger State in the early hours of Saturday, leaving at least two dead and many passengers injured .
The train, which left Lagos at exactly 12 noon on Friday, was carrying dozens of passengers and goods , a survivor said .
According to PREMIUM TIMES , the survivor said the crash occurred after the train suffered brake failure at Jebba Train Station shortly after 7 a . m yesterday .
The survivor , who pleaded not to be named , said at least four persons lost their lives in the accident with unspecified number of injured commuters currently undergoing treatment at various emergency facilities in the town.
“ The train left Lagos yesterday and crashed in Jebba this morning around 7 a . m . as it was trying to stop for those of us coming to Jebba ” , the survivor said . “ It was due to brakes failure ” .
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC , who responded to the emergency , said two persons were confirmed dead after detached coaches from the train fell on passengers .
The spokesperson of the FRSC , Bisi Kazeem, told the online news medium that the train was conveying goods to Kano , but had few passengers on - board .
“ The accident occurred this morning near Jebba Paper Mill and we can confirm that two people , unfortunately , lost their lives and three people were injured ” , Mr . Kazeem said . “ The train is used more as a cargo train , but it had some travelers inside ” .
Mr . Kazeem further stated that FRSC officials and police worked together to rescue trapped passengers and evacuate the injured to the hospital.
“ With the support of the police , we were able to get those who were trapped out alive and took those who survived injuries to the hospital” .

Yemi Adeola, the Sterling Bank’s CEO, was released on Friday, May 6, after he deposited a payment of N5 billion.
He is expected to pay back a total of N17 billion to the recovery accounts of the Nigerian treasury within two weeks.
The EFCC also released Herbert Wigwe, the managing director of Access Bank Plc.
The case of Access Bank was linked to oil businessmen, Jide Omokore and Kola Aluko, who are suspected to have stolen more than $6 billion from oil proceeds.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly released the chief executive officers of two Nigerian banks.
According to Sahara Reporters, the men regained freedom after they returned billions of naira they had illicitly acquired from political slush funds during the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan.
The EFCC sources revealed that Yemi Adeola, the Sterling Bank’s CEO, was released on Friday, May 6, after he deposited a payment of N5 billion.
According to one of the sources, the money returned by Adeola was in partial restitution for a transaction of $88 million he received from Diezani Alison-Madueke, a former minister of petroleum resources.

Fulani herdsmen today, May, 7 took their activities to another level as they block the convoy of a state governor in the south-eastern part of the nation.
According to Vanguard, the herdsmen blocked the convoy of Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state alongside journalists who were with him on a tour of some projects in the state capital.
“The governor and journalists were held up for about half an hour at Amakohia Orlu Road in Owerri the state capital on Saturday between 4 and 4. 30 pm” the source said.
The source added that it took the intervention of the governor’s security details to clear the road for him.

Following the signing of the 2016 Budget on Friday by President Muhammadu Buhari , the Federal Government has said that its focus has shifted to implementation.
The Federal Government stated that the
Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP) is a compendium of high-level interventions that the it will initiate/complete this fiscal year.
“The SIP has been put together by the Min of Budget & National Planning, and the Economic Management Team under the leadership of Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo .
The SIP will be both a source of info on government priorities for 2016, as well as a means of tracking progress.
It assembles the Budget Interventions, and Fiscal, Monetary, Trade and Investment Policy Reforms to reflate and reposition the Economy.
It also outlines more than 30 Specific, Measurable Priority Actions to be completed across 6 Strategic Intervention Areas,” it said in a series of tweets.
