HIV patients in Kenya cry out over no food supplements, says they are dying

Kenyans living with HIV are allegedly accusing the President Uhuru’s administration of subjecting them to death due to no supply of food supplements since the departure of the former President Mwai Kibaki in 2013. Speaking with journalists recently, Jackie Wambui from the National Network for People Living with HIV (NEPHAK) said:

‘Since 2013, we have been constantly asking for food and nutritional supplements and the Ministry of Health would tell us that there is no funding for such and that HIV treatment services are devolved to countries.’
However, Nelson Otuoma the chairman of NEPHAK also explained that no feedback has been given after writing several letters to the Ministry of Health regarding the Sh585 million set aside for food and supplements for people living with HIV in Kenya.
‘We have written several letters to the Ministry but have not gotten a response.’ According to reports, there are more than 1.5 million people living with HIV in Kenya with 850, 000 patient receiving treatment.
